FAQ

  • Who can train with Flow STG?

We currently train athletes ages 6-18, with programs grouped by age and ability level. We have a mix of female only and co-ed programs, training groups and travel teams. You can learn more about our current offerings on our Programs & Offerings Page.

  • Do I need beach volleyball experience to join?

No! We welcome athletes of all experience levels, from brand new to competitive club players. Groups are designed so each athlete is challenged appropriately. Our National Program, Advanced, Intermediate and NEXT training groups do require an evaluation first. Learn more on our Programs & Offerings Page.

  • How is beach volleyball different from indoor?

Beach volleyball is played in pairs (2 v 2) and develops all-around skills, faster decision making, stronger conditioning, and mental toughness. Every player touches the ball more, which helps them grow as complete athletes. As such, we recommend beach volleyball to all volleyball players - including those who will continue to play indoor as their primary sport.

  • Where are practices held?

We train in multiple locations in and around St. George, Utah. Locations include: Little Valley Sand Courts, Fossil Falls Park, Vernon Worthen Park, as well as summer programming in Cedar City, Utah.

  • How many athletes are in each session?

We cap our sessions between 9-16 athletes (depending on the level of the group), with a high-rep training style to maximis reps and feedback.

  • How many times per week do athletes train?

We hold a variety of training opportunities throughout the year, both in and out of season. In season, our National Program athletes train 3-4 times per week and travel to events. Spring and fall sessions typically train twice per week. Developmental groups (LITE and MINI) typically train once per week.

  • What should athletes bring/wear to sessions?

Sun protection is a MUST! Sunscreen, sunglasses, water, and athletic attire are essential. Most of our athletes train in leggings, shorts or spandex on bottom, and either a tank top, t shirt, or sweatshirt on top. Sand socks are optional. We train in all weather, and athletes are encouraged to dress in layers.

  • Do all athletes compete in tournaments?

Some do, but not all. Depending on the group, athletes may compete locally, regionally, or nationally. Our National Program athletes compete on the following circuits: BVCA, BVNE, P1440, AVP. While some circuits require club membership to participate, others are open to anyone. We encourage our girls to sign up on their own for any events and play as much as possible!

  • Do you offer drop in sessions?

During Spring Training Series and Summer Training Series, drop-ins may be available. We previously had a drop in session model, but this was discontinued for the 2026 season. If you are interested in joining us but aren’t sure where to start, reach out to our director: coachjaz@flowstg.com

  • Who runs the club?

Coach Jaz (Jazmine Orozco), former Division I Volleyball athlete and national championship runner-up, leads the program. She combined elite experience with passion for helping players love themselves and the game. Learn more about our team on the Coaches Page.

  • Can parents watch practices?

Of course! While we encourage athletes to take ownership of their training and communication, parents are welcome to attend practices and events. Our club has a community environment. You will often see parents hanging out together during sessions and little siblings running around and playing together.

  • How do you account for the weather?

We adjust the times of our training sessions throughout the year to account for weather and sunlight. We train in all weather (including rain) with the exception of lightning storms and extreme head advisories. Beach volleyball tournaments are held in a variety of environments, so it is important for our training to prepare athletes in this way.

  • Do you offer scholarships or financial assistance?

Yes. Flow STG is committed to access and inclusion. We offer financial assistance to members of our most competitive programs. Contact us about scholarship opportunities and application process.

  • What can beach volleyball do for my athlete in the future?

Beach volleyball not only helps your athlete with their indoor game, but it is one of the fastest growing college sports in the US with over 90 NCAA Division I programs and more added each year. Many Flow STG athletes aspire to play at the collegiate level, and some may even go on to play professionally or continue competing in adult tournaments and leagues. Click here for a list of current NCAA Beach Programs.

  • When are tryouts?

We don’t hold traditional tryouts. Our team believes we need more than a single day, 2 hour tryout to get a real feel for an athlete’s abilities and intangibles (effort, coachability, performance under pressure, etc). Athletes 14+ interested in joining our program are encouraged to sign up for a training series. Training series are 4-6 weeks, one session per week. For 2025 and 2026, we will also hold Open Program days once a quarter - learn more here.
